Alterations / Quality Control / Quality Assurance Associate
General Summary
This position is responsible for performing garment alterations, quality inspection, and merchandise processing functions within a distribution center environment. The role ensures returned and incoming product meets established company quality standards and is properly prepared for resale, repair, or disposition. This position supports efficient inventory flow and cross-functional operational needs.
Key Responsibilities
The Associate is responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:
- Inspect merchandise for compliance with company standards including fit, measurements, workmanship, aesthetics, and brand requirements
- Perform garment alterations and repairs using hand and machine sewing techniques, as well as related finishing processes such as steaming, pressing, spot cleaning, and fabric manipulation
- Identify and determine product disposition, including first quality, repair, “as-is,” markdown (MOS), or return-to-vendor (RTV) classifications
- Conduct quality inspections and statistical sampling in accordance with established procedures and quality standards
- Receive, sort, process, and repack merchandise while maintaining original packing integrity and standards
- Maintain accurate inventory control through POS systems and RF scanning technology, including transfers and adjustments
- Ensure proper segregation and handling of non-conforming merchandise for appropriate disposition or remediation
- Maintain case integrity, traceability, and accurate documentation throughout all stages of processing
- Perform re-ticketing, labeling, folding, and packaging of merchandise in accordance with company standards
- Support workflow coordination by assisting supervisors with task assignment, prioritization, and operational execution
- Participate in cross-functional support activities including returns processing, warehouse operations, QC inspections, and special projects
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in compliance with all company safety policies and procedures
- Meet or exceed established productivity, quality, and attendance standards
- Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- 1–2 years of related experience in alterations, quality control, or warehouse operations preferred
- Strong hand sewing skills preferred; machine sewing experience a plus
- Strong attention to detail and ability to evaluate product against defined standards
- Basic math, measurement, and communication skills required
- Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions with accuracy and consistency
- Experience with RF scanning devices and warehouse systems preferred
- Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and strong work ethic required
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift to 50 lbs. and perform frequent standing, bending, lifting, and reaching
- Ability to visually inspect small details and color variations accurately
- Manual dexterity for garment handling and system input tasks
- Ability to perform physically active warehouse and production work
