Director, Visual Merchandising

Director, Visual Merchandising reports directly to the Chief Communications & Creative Officer and is responsible for shaping the creative vision, strategy, and execution of the David's Bridal in-store brand experience. This role ensures the brand comes to life consistently across all physical environments, store types, and partnership spaces.

Working closely with the Senior Art Director, Store Operations teams, and Marketing leadership, the Director translates seasonal campaigns, tentpole initiatives, and product launches into immersive retail storytelling that inspires brides and occasion shoppers while driving measurable business results.

This is not solely a role focused on fixtures and operational execution—this position oversees the development of seasonal and campaign-driven narratives, differentiated experiences by store type, and innovative approaches to both owned and partner retail environments. The Director leads the Visual Merchandising team, sets strategic priorities, drafts directives for store teams, and ensures visual consistency, quality, and creativity across all stores and partnership activations, including shop-in-shop and store-in-store concepts.

The Director also champions documentation, recording, and sharing of visual displays, oversees seasonal signage and production, and travels with field teams as needed to ensure best-in-class execution and creative innovation.

Creative Strategy & In-Store Storytelling

  • Lead the creative strategy for visual merchandising across all retail locations, ensuring that campaigns, seasonal initiatives, and product launches translate into compelling in-store experiences.
  • Develop seasonal and tentpole storytelling that brings marketing campaigns and brand moments to life within stores.
  • Partner with Creative and Marketing teams to translate campaign creative into physical environments, ensuring cohesive brand storytelling across all touchpoints.
  • Establish innovative retail concepts and immersive experiences that engage customers emotionally and commercially across all categories: bridal, bridesmaids, social occasion, accessories, and shoes.
  • Tailor visual merchandising strategies by store type, market, and regional dynamics, maximizing each location’s potential to inspire, convert, and delight.

Retail Experience & Store Strategy

  • Develop and implement a tiered visual merchandising approach that balances consistency and flexibility across store formats and market dynamics.
  • Identify opportunities to elevate store environments through creative product presentation, visual moments, and experiential storytelling.
  • Continuously test, iterate, and refine visual strategies to maintain a fresh, innovative, and aspirational brand experience.

B2B Retail & Partnership Environments

  • Oversee the visual execution of partner brands within David’s Bridal stores, including shop-in-shop activations.
  • Lead the visual strategy for David’s Bridal presence in partner environments, ensuring strong brand visibility, clarity, and cohesion.
  • Collaborate with business development teams to create co-branded retail experiences that reflect both David’s Bridal and partner brand standards.

Visual Direction, Documentation & Store Communication

  • Draft and disseminate visual merchandising directives and seasonal guidelines for store teams.
  • Develop and maintain planograms, merchandising playbooks, visual guidelines, and training materials.
  • Support field teams in understanding and implementing visual standards consistently across the store fleet.
  • Travel as needed to support rollouts, store openings, and concept testing, providing hands-on guidance and feedback.

Signage, Production & Retail Assets

  • Oversee the design, production, and distribution of seasonal signage and in-store visual assets.
  • Ensure signage, props, and visual materials are aligned with brand campaigns, marketing initiatives, and store capabilities.
  • Manage printing and production timelines, budgets, and quality standards for all visual merchandising assets.

Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire the Visual Merchandising team, including fostering a culture of creativity, innovation, and accountability.
  • Collaborate with Creative, Marketing, Merchandising, Store Operations, and Partnerships to ensure alignment on brand vision, campaigns, and retail storytelling.
  • Support team members in testing new concepts, elevating execution, and advancing professional growth.

Financial & Operational Management

  • Manage the visual merchandising budget, including fixtures, signage, production, and visual tools.
  • Ensure visual initiatives meet financial objectives, calendar deadlines, and operational feasibility.
  • Oversee multiple projects simultaneously from concept through execution, maintaining high standards of quality, consistency, and innovation.

Reporting & Partnerships

  • Reports to: Chief Communications & Creative Officer
  • Key Collaborations:
    • Senior Art Director – translate creative campaigns into retail environments
    • Marketing leadership – align visual storytelling with campaign launches and promotional calendars
    • Store Operations & Field Leadership – ensure visual directives are actionable and standards are maintained
    • Merchandising & Buying – align product storytelling with category strategy
    • Partnerships & Business Development – support visual execution for co-branded and partner retail environments

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Visual Merchandising, Retail Design, or related field required; equivalent experience considered. Master’s degree in Interior Design, Retail Design, or Environmental Design preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in visual merchandising, retail brand strategy, or creative leadership, including multi-store oversight.
  • Proven experience in creative retail storytelling, seasonal concept development, campaign translation, and experiential merchandising.
  • Strong leadership experience with the ability to mentor, inspire, and develop high-performing creative teams.
  • Portfolio demonstrating innovative retail environments, visual storytelling, and commercial results preferred.
